Tropical Bird of Paradise Mood Board

Tropical House Decor

Feeling Tropical?   Feeling Colorful?    Feeling .... BOLD?

It it time to add a little pop of color to your wall?   Tired of looking at neutral?   This is the ART and decor for you!!

How many times have you walked into that one room and said ... it needs some color?   This art will definitely help bring some color to a wall!

Let's build a mood board around this piece of art - and include things you like - not just what I have listed.   There's so many options to explore ... so, let's get started!

What is a Mood Board

I really want to jump in and tell you all about this art - because it’s such a fun piece and I love the tropical vibe - it simply transports me to island time!   But before we get too far - let’s give a quick definition of what a mood board is and how I use them.

A mood board is an essential tool in the design process that acts as a visual to work from, bringing together inspiration and concepts to help plan a visually pleasing look for a space. For those passionate about interior design (or those who just need a visual!  🙋🏼‍♀️), mood boards offer a way to experiment with colors, textures, and decor elements before making any big decisions.

When it comes to art-centered mood boards, they play a critical role in connecting key pieces of fine art with furniture, color palettes, and room accents to make the room cohesive and functional.  By assembling various images, fabric swatches, and design ideas on a board, you can envision how a piece of art might transform an entire room and set the tone for its decor.

Whether you're integrating a bold abstract painting or a serene landscape photograph, a mood board helps ensure that every element—from the color of the walls to the choice of accessories—flows seamlessly around the art. This practice is a creative and practical step that helps designers and homeowners visualize a unified, inspired space where every piece feels intentional and connected.

My story for this (and how I got started with this) is when I had to design, build from scratch and decorate a barndominium.   Being a very visual person, I was struggling.  Fortunately, I’m also a list maker and project manager …. So off to technology I went to build mood boards, a walk thru plan of the barndominium and suddenly it all came together and the final product is exactly what was requested.   I find that mood boards allow me to both “chip and chunk” rooms and walls (basically take a big task and only work on a piece of it - chips and chunks of the whole big project ) until finally it fits together.  It is my method to keep from getting overwhelmed (which I easily fall into analysis paralysis when walking thru room decor and design!!).

Now … onto the FUN STUFF!

Tropical Mood board with Bird of Paradise Art

Bright green flower plant nature bird of paradise

This Bird of Paradise was photographed literally in paradise - St. Lucia.   The tropics were abundant and the colors were unbelievable.   This plant was definitely making a powerful, colorful statement.   Color of the Bird of Paradise brings the beauty of nature.... INSIDE!

My photography blogs lately have been pairing my ART with furniture, wall colors, lamps, decor items etc.   It's been a huge hit - in that people are loving ideas on how to pair ART with other room furnishings - and make it work for them!    As a photographer, I prefer the focal point to be ART.   (Furniture is just something you sit on to enjoy the ART! ).  While that may not be true for you - I can almost guarantee that whoever is sitting in the chair - will look around the room and notice the ART.

My mood board is just ideas to spark your creativity!   There are so many ways to accomplish this - so enjoy the creativity, make the room yours!

So .... grab your pencil and paper, your iPad, your computer ... whatever method you use .... and let's get designing around .... ART!

When you invest in ART, you want to showcase that art - and make sure it’s appreciated by others as much as you appreciate it!

5 Steps to build your Mood Board

1.  Select your focal point

Decide which piece(s) of art will be the focal point or inspiration point for the room/office building etc.

Color of Bird of Paradise - Featured art.

This art is available in either TruLife Acrylic or High Gloss Chromaluxe Metal.

The TruLife Acrylic is non-reflective/non-glare, it appears as though you’re looking through a window at the picture, and is a little more modern and contemporary.

The Chromaluxe Metal is a glossier, does reflect light but is cheaper.   You can’t go wrong with either one - it just depends on what your preference, style and budget can afford.

Don’t worry about the size of the art just yet!   Most of my pieces can be custom sized - so just focus on the LOOK that you want right now.

A little bit about this art: It was taken in the botanical gardens in St. Lucia.  About 10 minutes prior to this, there had been a 10 minute rain shower - so all the colors in the garden were exquisite and definitely putting on a show for anyone that would pause and enjoy nature.  To me, this art is just FUN!   The bold bright colors are just the right amount of color to bring a smile to my face.

2.  Build a Theme

I chose .... BOLD AND FUN!

You know ... when you see that commercial that says to BE BOLD.  And you feel like they're talking to everyone but you.   That's me.   I'm such a neutral person... until it comes to ART!   I love colorful ART.   As you look at the mood board that I put together you can definitely see my neutral side trying to come thru - but I completely threw it out of the ballpark with that pop of orange chair ... and a llama pillow!

3.  Create a Mood Board

Visualize the items together.   I do this by creating a mood board.   Whether I pick these exact items or not - this gives me a starting place for options for the room, for the art, and my style.

4.  Tweak it until you're happy with it!

Not everyone’s style is the same - so incorporate YOU into it.   That will ensure that you love it!

The goal here is to LOVE what’s on your mood board.  Be happy with it.

5.  Start Shopping!

Below are the items that I selected to go with this art / moodboard.   The resources are below, or feel free to be creative for your style.   Either way - find something that you will LOVE!   Afterall, it is your home or office!

The Color of Bird of Paradise fine art is a statement piece - sure to draw in even the most boring neutral-loving person.   The vibe of this mood board is so fun.   Every time I look at it - I love that orange chair more and more.

Statement furniture alert!!!   The orange chair!   If this doesn't get your energy flowing and want you to do a cheer .... (okay, maybe the cheer is stretching it a bit). but ..... I just LOVE this chair!
Steel & Wood Shelving - I am a promoter of buying local and this store definitely outdoes themselves.   They are located just minutes from my house.  They make the furniture in the store - and they are making Furniture ART!   I love how they tie the metal with the wood.  And it's such a solid piece of furniture.   No scrimping on the materials here!
I rely on Benjamin Moore paint colors.  Banana Yellow 2022-40!!   (I'm swooning!!)
This light is so much fun.   Wooden on the outside and a pop of orange on the inside.  Retro yet modern.... and FUN!

Last but definitely not least - a few fun accessories:

* Llama Pillow

* Vintage Navy/Orange Pillow

* Wall Clock with Orange Dials

No tropical oasis is complete without a plant - either a real plant or an almost-real plant.   This 58-inch Green Artificial Bird of Paradise Plant is found at Lowe's.

A little bit about me:  I love taking pictures!   It started at a very young age and has stuck with me my whole life.  I have used my pictures to capture memories and moments that later allow you to reflect.  I never considered moving forward and creating art until several challenging events happened which allowed me to rethink my priorities.  I then had the opportunity to collaborate with a designer and had SO MUCH FUN!!   Now I’m here to share some of that fun with you - and help you add some beautiful art to your world!

To find other pieces of art, please check out my website www.lisablountphotography.com

(Please note:  I am not affiliated with or promoting any of the furniture or accessories - only my art.   I will give you links to where I found the items, but it’s only for reference - as I simply found pieces that I liked that I felt could enhance the art when grouped with it.)
